In EV charging, i4B builds what's next
EvLab is i4B's research and development department. We invest our own time and budget in new solutions for the EV charging industry: charger firmware and OCPP, CSMS platforms, dynamic load management, EV depot orchestration and testing tools like OCPP Tester. What we prove in the lab goes into the products and projects we deliver for our clients.

When teams in EV charging work with EvLab
We work with charger manufacturers, charge point operators, eMobility service providers and energy companies. These are the four situations in which they usually come to us.
Something in your charging stack keeps breaking
Chargers drop offline, sessions go missing or the back office slows down as the network grows. We reproduce the issue, find the cause and fix it for good.
You need engineers who already know the domain
You are building a product and need experienced EV charging engineers on your team. Ours know OCPP, OCPI, charger firmware and CSMS, so they don't need months to get up to speed.
You want a specific solution built
Charger software, a CSMS module, load management or a complete product. We design, build and deliver it, from discovery to launch.
You need an expert opinion first
An architecture review, a technology choice or a second look at a vendor proposal. A short consultation with engineers who have built it before.
Engineering across the whole charging stack
EvLab works on the charger, the platform and the energy in between, so a fix doesn't stop at one layer.
EV depot orchestration
Charging schedules for electric bus and truck depots: every vehicle ready for departure, within the site's power limit, then at the lowest energy cost.
EVSE firmware and OCPP
OCPP 2.1 and all earlier versions (2.0.1, 1.6J) in charger software, plus MODBUS and CAN communication with power electronics and meters.
Charger screens and kiosk mode
Kiosk-mode apps for Android and Linux displays, with UI and flows drivers understand at the charger.
Remote updates and device management
Over-the-air firmware updates, MDM integration and remote maintenance for whole charger fleets.
CSMS and back office
New modules or extensions to an existing CSMS for CPOs and eMSPs: availability, transactions, monitoring and alerting, dashboards and multi-tenant SaaS or on-premises setups.
OCPI, webhooks and integrations
OCPI roaming, webhooks and IoT cloud integration that connect your platform to partners and external tools.
Dynamic load management
Available power split across chargers on one connection, balanced per customer and limited remotely via API.
OCPP Tester simulates charging stations over OCPP 2.1 and all earlier versions (2.0.1, 1.6J), including blackouts and load management scenarios.

Frequently asked questions
What is i4B EvLab?
EvLab is i4B's R&D department for eMobility. Our engineers develop new solutions for the EV charging industry, such as OCPP Tester, and bring that experience to client work: problem solving, team augmentation, product development and consulting.
Which OCPP versions do you work with?
OCPP 2.1 and all earlier versions (2.0.1, 1.6J), both in charger firmware and on the CSMS side. We also implement OCPI for roaming.
Can you work on our existing CSMS instead of replacing it?
Yes. We extend existing CSMS platforms for CPOs and eMSPs with new modules, integrations and fixes, including platforms such as AMPECO.
Do you write software for our charger hardware?
Yes. We build EVSE software including OCPP, MODBUS and CAN communication, kiosk-mode screens on Android or Linux, remote updates and MDM integration.
What does dynamic load management involve?
Splitting the available power from one circuit across multiple chargers, balancing charging speed per customer and setting limits remotely via API, so more chargers fit on the same connection.
How do you work with us commercially?
Four ways: consulting, team augmentation with experienced EV charging engineers, problem solving in your existing system, or full product delivery at a fixed price or on time and materials.
